The Litmus test for the analysis of hydrogen peroxide is useful in the sanitizing process of drinking water treatment with H2O2. They serve to highlight the end of the washing-rinsing process, that is, the absence of sanitizing residues. So they guarantee pure water.
It is interesting to note that hydrogen peroxide can function as an extremely environmentally friendly oxidizing or reducing agent: in fact, when it acts as a reducing agent it oxidises to give oxygen while when it acts as an oxidant it gives water, two compounds with a zero polluting power.
